Oyler is a Principal and the Director of Design at Assembly Design, a furniture studio he co-founded with Interior Designer Nora Mattingly in 2012. Assembly creates high quality objects with a forward-thinking aesthetic. Assembly values art and craft based practices. The more we can know and understand about materials, processes, and techniques, the more creative power we have. From one-of-a-kind furniture pieces and objects to small batch production and site-specific interior installations, our approach to design is interdisciplinary in spirit and process. Employing both traditional and experimental techniques, our work is fresh, thoughtful, and made with care.
Assembly has designed for and collaborated with a diverse group of clients including the San Francisco object based publication, The Thing Quarterly, Brooklyn's Wythe Hotel, the Roundhouse at Beacon Falls, ODL, and Sight Unseen. Assembly has also participated in collaborations with other design studios including the textile based studio, New Friends, and the Norwegian design team Morten & Jonas. Assembly's work is recognized and showcased (inter)nationally. Assembly Design is represented by Matin Gallery in Los Angeles, Triode Design Gallery in Paris, and Criteria Collection in Cremorne. Recent publications include Elle Décor Italia, the Financial Times, Wallpaper, Ideat, Modern Painters, Interni, Brooklyn Magazine, Interior Design Magazine, and the New York Times.
