Designed for the Brooklyn based producer, Areaware, Pedestals are part of a larger investigation of how shifts in scale impact our ideas about function and utility. Pedestals represent a class of object with versatile but ambiguous function, providing a surface that can be used in countless ways. The pedestal, with its very basic formal and functional requirements, lends itself well to a study of shifting scales. The formal and structural simplicity of the Pedestals draws from traditional woodworking techniques—specifically, the lap joint, which is as humble as it is elegant.
